Which club apps work with Play-Cricket? What each one actually syncs.
Several club apps connect to Play-Cricket, but they sync very different things: some import your fixtures once, others bring in results, full scorecards and stats every day. Here’s what six of them say they sync, from their own documentation, and how to check before you choose.
Play-Cricket stays your official record
Play-Cricket is the ECB’s system for recreational cricket in England and Wales. Leagues run their fixtures and tables on it, scorers score into it, and every affiliated club has a site on it with its own site ID. A club app doesn’t replace any of that. It reads from Play-Cricket and does the things Play-Cricket doesn’t: who’s available, who’s picked, who’s paid, and what the squad talks about between games.
What “Play-Cricket integration” can mean
The phrase covers everything from a one-off import to a daily sync of every scorecard. In rising order:
- Fixtures imported once, which you then keep up to date by hand.
- Fixtures kept in sync, so rearranged games update themselves.
- Results brought in after each game.
- Full scorecards: every innings, bowler and dismissal.
- Player stats and points, built from those scorecards.
All of the integrations here run one way: they read from Play-Cricket and none says it writes back.

Why the sync after match day matters
A scorecard isn’t finished when the players leave the ground. Scorers correct it, captains confirm results, and league administrators tidy records, sometimes weeks later. At Brookweald in the 2026 season:
- 79%Of matches last changed 2+ days after the game
- 49%Changed more than a week later
- 13 daysTypical gap, for those changed late
That’s 42 of 53 matches. Play-Cricket’s timestamp counts any change to the match record, not only scorecard corrections, but every one of them is a change an app that imports once, or only on match day, will never see. If your stats or leaderboard matter to your players, ask whether the app goes back and re-checks matches it has already imported.
Why apps sync such different things
Two facts from the ECB explain most of the differences:
- Access is by agreement. The ECB provides its API to clubs and leagues for their own data, and to a set of partners in exchange for data sharing. It doesn’t onboard start-up products, and suggests smaller ones let each club add its own API token. Data-sharing agreements have been tightened since GDPR came in, in 2018. So some apps can only offer an import, and some ask for your token rather than just your site ID.
- There’s no stats feed. The API gives clubs full scorecards, but the ECB says it offers “no endpoints for statistics, which remains a Play-Cricket only functionality”. Any app showing player stats is building them from the scorecards it has synced. If it skips cup games, friendlies or some of your teams, its numbers won’t match Play-Cricket’s averages.
It also isn’t real-time: the ECB recommends fetching results once after the game and syncing other data overnight.
Club apps vs scoring apps
Play-Cricket’s scoring apps, Play-Cricket Scorer (PCS) and PCS Pro, made by the ECB’s scoring partners Frogbox and NV Play, score the match ball by ball and can feed a ground’s scoreboard. Club apps run everything around the match. Most clubs use both: the scorer scores in PCS, the scorecard lands in Play-Cricket, and the club app picks it up from there.
How to check an app’s Play-Cricket claims before you switch
- Ask exactly what it syncs: fixtures, results, full scorecards, league tables, stats.
- Ask how often, and whether it re-checks matches it has already imported.
- Ask what it needs from you: a site ID, your own API token, or a file you download and upload.
- Check cup matches and friendlies, not just league games.
- Test it on last season during a trial: do the stats match Play-Cricket’s?
- Check name matching: what happens when a player is spelled differently in the app and on the scorecard?
Where MVP Cricket fits
MVP Cricket syncs fixtures, results and full scorecards every morning, re-checks recently played matches, and builds stats and MVP points from every scorecard, on every plan including Free. You connect it with your site ID and nothing else. How the sync works.
Where it’s weaker: it has no website builder, it’s for cricket only, and it installs from the browser rather than the App Store. If you need a club website or run several sports, Pitchero, Teamo or Spond may suit you better; the comparisons with Spond, Teamo and Pitchero set out the trade-offs and costs.
Questions clubs ask
Do I still need Play-Cricket if I use a club app?
Yes. Play-Cricket is the ECB’s system and your club’s official record: leagues run on it and scorers score into it. Every app here reads from it; none replaces it.
Can a club app send results back to Play-Cricket?
None of the apps here says it does. The sync runs one way, from Play-Cricket into the app, so results and corrections are always made in Play-Cricket or the scoring app, and the club app picks them up.
Is a Play-Cricket integration free?
Play-Cricket itself is free for clubs. What an app charges for its integration varies: MVP Cricket includes the daily sync on its Free plan, ClubSports365 is £50 a month, Spond’s app is free, and Pitchero lists its integration among its club website platform’s features.
